This is a bit more than a bit , but I love both of these poems and thought I would
share them. - Lorena
from "The Passage to India" by Walt Whitman
"Sail forth--steer for the deep waters only,
Reckless O soul, exploring, I with thee, and thou with me,
For we are bound where mariner has not yet dared to go,
And we will risk the ship, ourselves and all.
O my brave soul !
O farther farther sail !
O daring joy, but safe ! are they not all the seas of God ?
O farther, farther, farther, sail ! "
" Symphony" by William Ellery Channing
To live content with small means,
To seek elegance rather than luxury,
And refinement rather than fashion,
To be worthy, not respectable,
And wealthy, not rich,
To study passionately, think quietly, act frankly,
To listen to stars, and birds, babes, and sages,
With open heart,
Do all bravely,
Await occasions, hurry never -
In a word,
To let the spiritual, unbidden, and unconscious,
Grow up through the common,
This is my Symphony.
