Lynette Grellson Fox ~ Anchorage, AK After high school I went to college for two years. My freshman year was spent at Bethel College in St. Paul, MN where I learned about snow, blizzards and ice skating. I actually purchased my very first winter coat that year in October. My sophomore year I went to San Diego State and started working as an intern for the US Navy at the Supply Center. While working there I met and married my first husband in 1969. In 1971 our first son, Kevin was born, in 1972 we had our second son, Brett. When he was released from the Navy in 1975, we moved to his home in Ketchikan, Alaska. We divorced in 1978. I stayed in Alaska and met my husband, Dale Fox who was the President of the Ketchikan Visitors’ Bureau. Dale and I married and moved to Anchorage in 1982. I decided to finish school and got an accounting degree from the University of Alaska in 1984. After graduation I worked for Ernst and Young, earned my CPA license and traveled extensively throughout rural Alaska and the U.S. In 1990, after the Exxon Valdez spill, I went to work for Alyeska Pipeline as a Financial Analyst. Two years later I moved to Valdez to work as an Oil Spill Support Manager. My job was to ensure that spill response equipment was ready and available to manage any future oil spills. I transferred back to Anchorage in 1995 and led the internal audit department. From 2001 to 2003 I worked with the Right-of-Way Renewal Team to extend the Pipeline’s land lease with the Federal Government for another 30 years. I am currently the Quality Assurance Manager for the project that is converting the pipeline from jet engine power to electric turbines. We are also upgrading the control system and relocating the operating control center from Valdez to Anchorage. The photo below shows the pipeline with a spectacular display of northern lights that was taken near Pump Station 9 at Delta Junction, Alaska..

I plan to retire from Alyeska Pipeline in 2008 and move back to my ‘roots’ in Southern California. I have some opportunities to return as an alumni consultant for Ernst and Young. Both Dale and I are looking forward to warmer weather, no snow to shovel and opportunity to spend more time with family. Both of my boys live near San Diego, and I know that my three grandchildren will want to visit often. We also have a new hobby, Scuba diving, that we would like to pursue in warmer water!
I have attached a photo below of my three grandchildren with me on my birthday in June, 2006. You may notice that we still had a bit of snow in the mountains in the background.
